Snite Museum of Art
Exhibition design, banner design, promotional materials
Print materials, including a large exterior banner and brochure, for the Snite Museum of Art’s exhibition of antique Studebaker cars.
Concept
The exhibition design for this Snite Museum of Art show balances nostalgia with modern sophistication, mirroring the historic contrast between the Roaring Twenties and the Depression Era. The visual identity is anchored by a striking, high-gloss image of a 1932 Auburn 8-100A Speedster, positioned against a sleek gradient background that evokes luxury and classic craftsmanship. The typography is a delicate mix of Art Deco-inspired letterforms and contemporary sans-serif pairings. The restrained color palette allows the extravagance of the show cars to take center stage.

Inside the accordion-fold layout is a well-structured yet dynamic grid layout of text that allows for both in-depth storytelling and visual indulgence. The hierarchical typographic system ensures that key automobile models stand out, while the tight integration of text and imagery gives each page a sense of balance and movement. Close-up photography of fine detailing, grilles, and Studebaker interiors adds a tactile, intimate dimension to the exhibit brochure, celebrating the craftsmanship of each vehicle. In tandem with the large exterior 40’ x 40’ banner, which commands attention with its oversized scale and classic car imagery, this suite of materials transforms historical automotive design into a high-art experience, reinforcing the museum’s commitment to both historical reverence and contemporary design excellence.
